About Common Sense Millennial

This is a resource for members of the Millennial generation who need to acquire some common sense knowledge about their money and careers. I started this blog in July of 2013 for people in their twenties and thirties who are struggling to find a way to pay all their bills, deal with debt, and find enough cash left over at the end of the month to save and invest.

Most of us understand the importance of saving money and living within our means, but many of us are finding that hard to do. It’s tough to juggle all our responsibilities and work towards multiple financial goals when working a job that just doesn’t pay enough. When seeking out work, many Millennials are choosing fulfilling jobs or positions they enjoy over work that pays more — and that makes it difficult for everyone to get ahead financially.

The good news is that there is a solution to Millennial money troubles, and it starts with creating a career you love that also provides you with  a large enough income to reach all your financial goals.

Common Sense Millennial aims to share advice and tips gathered from my own experiences and insight. Ultimately, this is a personal blog, but one focused around personal finance and careers. My goal is to help lead my peers to financial stability and security through work that provides meaning and money. I seek to do more with my money and my life, and I hope that by documenting that here others will find inspiration, motivation, and direction on how to do the same.

About the Millennial

KaliHawlkHi! My name is Kali Hawlk. When I’m not busy here in my role as Chief Common Sense Millennial, chatting about about personal finance, careers, and Gen Y, I’m hard at work on my content marketing and management business.

I’m creating this resource for other Millennials based on experience. I live without debt, invest 40% of my income, and went from a boring, low-paying 9 to 5 desk job to building my own business from scratch — and creating work that pays twice as much as I was making working for someone else.

I made my dream of my own creative business into a reality, and I did it in less than a year. Now, I’m thrilled to be able to turn around and help other Millennials reach their big, important career and money goals. Together, we can make it happen!

In addition, I’m an avid runner and I’m happiest when I get to do something outside. I’m passionate about travel and I can’t wait to see more of the world. But in the meantime, I’m pretty content with getting to hang out at home with my awesome husband and our three kitties. (Yes, that’s two cats too many.)

If you’re interested in working with or hiring me, please don’t hesitate to send a message my way. If you’d like to reach me, my blog includes a Contact page or you can email me at commonsensemillennial [at] gmail [dot] com. I’m eager to put my skills and knowledge to work for you.
